4D: Symbolism of colour

Colour has a drastic impact on the way we see the world. As an experiment I made two video, both containing the same footage, same music, same timecode and same layout. However, one of the videos is using colour in an atypical pop art style, whilst the other is in varying degrees of black and white. Although the imagery can be seen as violent due to the knife, the colour dulls down the impact. The idea for this experiment came from looking at two versions of Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe prints.

The mood of the prints becomes much bleaker and darker once the colour has been removed.
